The 3rd KiWi Annual Meeting (Munich)
Submitted by Fred Durao on Wed, 12/15/2010 - 09:48.The 3rd KiWi Annual Meeting took place in the freezing Munich with a “cool” temperature under minus 5 degrees
. In the first day of meeting, Sebastian showed a demo of KiWi system with the new interface and made an overview of the workplan for the next months. In the second day, the enabling technologies presented a research summary of their work and last developments.

The KiWi Release Party
Submitted by Fred Durao on Wed, 10/27/2010 - 18:39.On October 14 (2010), I travelled to Vienna, Austria to take part of the KiWi Release Party.
After more than 2 and half years of work, the KiWi platform 1.0 was officially released to the community. The event took place at Planetarium, an exciting space and quite inspiring. The space was properly made up by “KiWi” style, colors and flavors.

Research visit to LMU-Munich and Salzburg Research

I spent the first 2 weeks of July visiting LMU-Munich doing collaboration with Klara’s most recent work. We worked on the personalization of PEST approach with preliminary good results. Shortly....

The 1st KiWi Programming Camp
Submitted by Fred Durao on Tue, 03/24/2009 - 10:16.The KiWi programming camp was held in Salzburg and it was extremely important to understand in details how KiWi system was designed. In the first two days, we had introductory lectures about the system architecture and Seam framework. This introduction gave us the basis to develop our own functionalities more safely. In addition, we learned how to create unit tests and extend the system with external components, which are quickly plugged to the system.

KiWi Meeting in Vienna

All participants were represented so that we were able to update each other on the ongoing tasks. One of the major points of this meeting was to present the actual results to the others.
Munich Meeting - Enabling Technologies

It was a great time to find out share points and plan later collaboration when implementing our personalization tasks. In particular, it was very helpful listen to François his point of view about usage model in KiWi. He emphasized that we need to have a concrete and clear vision about data we need for our usage model. This is primary requirement for our further development.

KIWI meeting in Prague

Several advancements have been discussed in Prague such as requirements of use case partners for KIWI system, tag models, information extraction ideas, and reasoning about inconsistencies. Data model for the core system was discussed as well. The meeting was a success showing a convergence of ideas along the tagging, mesh up for integration with other enterprise information systems, as well as widget idea.

invited talk @ DLACIII workshop
Submitted by Peter Dolog on Mon, 06/23/2008 - 19:41.Between June 18 and June 21, I attended International Workshop on Distributed Learning and Collaboration (DLAC): Participation and personalization: The main factors of social software hosted by one of the Leibniz Insititutes: Knowledge Media Research Center in Tübingen, Germany, a very nice and historic university town with a very good climate and atmosphere.

ESWC 2008: tutorial and workshop keynote
Submitted by Peter Dolog on Sat, 06/07/2008 - 11:56.I have participated in ESWC 2008 conference in Tenerife. The location was well chosen. Tenerife has very pleasent climate and the accomodation and session rooms in the conference hotel are also excellent. The only disadvantage was the long flight and not really good internet connection. But we have survived :)
